An armed hooligan entered the pitch during Hajduk Split’s game against Rijeka on Saturday, before chasing the referee wielding an iron bar.
He angrily pursued the official until stewards finally took action and escorted him from the stadium.
According to the Daily Mail, the game had earlier been stopped for several minutes due to the setting off of fireworks by sections of the home support.
That preceded the unsettling scenes shown in the video above. The hooligan appeared to be able to get onto the pitch with ease and with almost no immediate resistance.
As he was escorted away, missiles were thrown at the stewards from some fans behind the goal.
The game finished 1-1, the away side Rijeka remaining the only side yet to lose in all competitions in Europe. An away following of 1,000 fans saw their side’s gap at the top cut to four points, although Champions League qualification still seems likely come the end of the season.
